Tooth-coloured Fillings

Composite fillings can repair selected areas of decay, small chips or wear while blending with the natural tooth. Suitability depends on the tooth, the bite and how much structure remains.

What to expect

A natural-looking repair, chosen for the right situation

A filling is not simply a cosmetic patch. The aim is to remove affected tissue conservatively, seal the tooth and rebuild a shape that feels comfortable when you bite. We first confirm whether a filling is the appropriate option.

01

Early or moderate decay

A tooth-coloured filling may restore a cavity when enough healthy tooth remains to support the repair.

02

Small chips or localised wear

Composite material can sometimes rebuild a limited defect and improve shape or comfort.

03

Replacing an old filling

Replacement is considered when an existing restoration is leaking, fractured or no longer serviceable—not merely because it is old.

04

When a filling may not be enough

Deep cracks, extensive damage or nerve involvement can require a different approach. The examination determines this.

How we approach it

Assess the tooth

We examine the tooth, symptoms and bite, and use imaging only when it adds useful information.

Plan shade and isolation

For visible areas, a suitable shade is selected. The tooth is kept clean and dry for reliable bonding.

Restore conservatively

Affected tissue is removed as needed, then composite is placed and hardened in controlled layers.

Shape, polish and check

The restoration is refined to support cleaning and comfort, and your bite is checked before you leave.

Common questions

Clear answers before you decide

Will the filling match my tooth?

The material is selected and shaped to blend with the tooth, but exact appearance depends on the location, lighting and surrounding enamel.

How long will a tooth-coloured filling last?

Longevity varies with the size and position of the filling, bite forces, oral hygiene, diet and habits such as grinding.

Can every metal filling be replaced with a tooth-coloured one?

Not automatically. Replacement should have a clinical reason, and the remaining tooth must be suitable for the proposed material.

A filling should follow a diagnosis

Let us assess the tooth first, explain whether a filling is suitable and discuss alternatives if it is not.
