Dental Care During Pregnancy

Tell your dentist that you are pregnant, how far along you are and whether your pregnancy has any complications. This helps the team plan comfortable, appropriate care.

When to Seek Help

Do not put off examination of toothache, swelling or infection because you are pregnant. Seek prompt dental advice and tell the clinician about your pregnancy before medicines or treatment are planned.

Can I Have Dental Care?

Preventive, diagnostic and restorative dental care can be provided during pregnancy. The dentist selects necessary investigations, local anaesthesia and medicines for your circumstances, coordinating with your maternity clinician when appropriate.

What Should I Bring?

Bring your medicine and supplement list, relevant maternity information and your clinician’s contact details. Mention nausea, vomiting, gum bleeding or discomfort when lying back.

What Should We Discuss?

Ask what needs attention now, what can be scheduled later and how to care for your teeth comfortably at home. An urgent problem and an elective cosmetic request have different priorities.

Questions About Your Next Step

Necessary dental care should not automatically be postponed. A consultation establishes what is needed and the appropriate timing.

Check with your maternity clinician, dentist or pharmacist before taking medicines during pregnancy. Do not use leftover prescriptions.
