FAQs

What is prosthetic dentistry and what are its applications?

It is a branch of dentistry that deals specifically with the replacement and restoration of missing teeth, damaged teeth, gums, bone, or facial structures

Crowns, bridges, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, implant-supported prosthesis, tooth-supported overdentures.

Dental prosthetics usually last from 5 to 10 years depending upon proper maintenance.

Broken tooth, severely worn-down tooth; covering and supporting a tooth with a large filling; discoloured teeth, badly shaped teeth; root canal treated tooth.

Metal, Porcelain fused to metal, All-ceramic, zirconia crown.

A typical crown and bridge require two-three visits. The tooth needs to be ground down to create space for the cap, following which measurements are made in the form of an impression which is used to fabricate the crown/bridge at a dental laboratory. Once the fit is checked and is satisfactory, the crown will adhere to the tooth using permanent cement. Complete/Partial denture fabrication typically requires 4-5 visits to deliver the final prosthesis.
